I just finished watching an interview on the news of parents who choose not to vaccinate their children for any diseases, including polio, because they feel their children eat holistic natural foods and if a person eats naturally and has a healthy diet and lifestyle our bodies are designed not to get ill.
OK.. .let’s explore this logic.
Prior to the past 150 years people ate nothing but holistic foods. There were no unnatural food processes for our ancient ancestors. That is why so many of them starved to death and died of food poisoning, but that is a different discussion.
It is interesting to me that mummified cavemen, with completely natural lifestyles, upon autopsy were found to have, by their mid-forties (which was old age in those times which few lived to see), evidence of arthritis and hardening of the arteries. Egyptian mummies have been found with cancer….I’m pretty sure they ate natural foods too.
For another example of great healthy eating and exercise in natural lifestyles….I will use Native American’s as an example of healthy living! They ate an all natural diet and got plenty of exercise. Yet, small pox, which the white people brought over here, killed most of them off. If they had, had our vaccinations whole cultures would not have been wiped out!
” Numerous other diseases were brought to North America, including measles, scarlet fever, typhoid, typhus, influenza, pertussis (whooping cough), tuberculosis, cholera, diphtheria, chickenpox and sexually transmitted diseases. Each of these brought destruction through sweeping epidemics, involving illness and extensive deaths. Many Native American tribes experienced great depopulation, averaging 25–50 percent of the tribes members lost to disease. Additionally, smaller tribes neared extinction after facing severely a destructive spread of disease. The significant toll that this took is expounded upon in the article Population history of indigenous peoples of the Americas. A specific example was Cortes’ invasion of Mexico. Before his arrival, the Mexican population is estimated to have been around 25 to 30 million. Fifty years later, the Mexican population was reduced to 3 million, mainly by infectious disease. This shows the main effect of the arrival of Europeans in the new world. With no natural immunity against these pathogens, native Americans died in huge numbers. The eminent Yale historian David Brion Davis describes this as “the greatest genocide in the history of man. Yet it’s increasingly clear that most of the carnage had nothing to do with European barbarism. The worst of the suffering was caused not by swords or guns but by germs”.” Wikipedia. (I could find lots of other resources).
In the 1950’s ..thousands of people died from polio and over 21,000 children were paralyzed. Then, too if you want an ancient parent’s opinion of communicable disease mortality, ask Louis the XVI. Small pox visited his family frequently. Or ask Mary Lincoln and Abe about typhoid….in her youth Mary Lincoln’s hometown of Lexington, Kentucky was devastated by it. They used suitcases in her father’s attic to bury the dead , because they ran out of coffins. It or diphtheria claimed the life of their precious son Willie, when they were in the White House.
It amazes me that supposedly educated, caring parents who can look up false information on the internet about the there being a link between autism and vaccines, do not have critical thinking skills enough to discern false information from fact…Not, even the historical facts of death rates from communicable diseases!
All ideas are not equal. Yes, there still is right and wrong. Not vaccinating children is wrong.. Not getting children vaccinated is a bad parental decision.
The idea that vaccines have anything to do with autism has been proved wrong over and over again. The study linking the two has been proved fraudulent. Vaccines have saved millions of lives.
I was born before vaccinations were available. I remember how sick I was with these diseases. I have hearing loss from scar tissue in my ears from those infections. Currently,I may or may not still have immunity to some of these diseases, that I already suffered through, because of my stem cell transplant. I can’t be vaccinated again for a year…just like most other cancer patients including children. I now have to, again, be concerned about measles and mumps and whooping cough thanks to parents who put both myself, other vulnerable populations and their own children at risk by not vaccinating. People will die, because of their decision, it’s just a matter of time.
Think of all the parent’s who throughout history have held children dying of these diseases in their arms pleading and praying to God to save them and cure this curse. I believe that vaccines and medical cures are answers to those generations of prayers.
It is fact that childhood mortality rates plummeted with the introduction and use of vaccines. To say the vaccinations are not effective doesn’t make you, “in the know” or a more “informed parent”, it just makes you dangerous….to your children and the rest of society….just saying.
