New Year’s Eve is a great time to get together with family and friends. At our house I would always prepare a buffet of snacks. There were always crackers, cheese, cookies, homemade breads, Asian chicken wings and these cocktail meatballs.
I received this recipe from my mother-in-law Lois Turgeon, over thirty years ago. It is still the family favorite. If you don’t want to take the time to make the meatballs from scratch, just buy a bag of frozen meatballs and make the sauce.
I wish everyone a safe and happy New Year!
Best Ever Cocktail Meatballs
1 1/2 lb. raw hamburger
1/4 c. milk
1/3 c. minced fresh onion
1/2 c. dry bread crumbs
1 tsp. salt
¼ tsp. pepper
In a large mixing bowl mix together with hands the hamburger, milk, onion, bread crumbs, egg, salt and pepper.
Form into 1-inch meatballs and brown in a large skillet. Cook meatballs through completely or they will not hold their shape in the crockpot.
Put cooked meatballs into the crockpot.
1 (12 oz.) bottle chili sauce
1 (10 oz.) jar grape jelly
On top of the stove in a medium-sized sauce pan combine chili sauce and jelly. Warm on medium heat, stirring frequently, until jelly is melted and combined with chili sauce. Pour over meatballs in crockpot.
Put crockpot on low heat and cook for 2-3 hours. Serve with toothpicks and crackers.
